A meat shop, online and delivering daily.

Apang's needed an online store that could handle perishable inventory, delivery windows, and the way Trinidadians actually pay — including cash on delivery. We built a custom commerce stack with local payment options, real-time inventory and a delivery scheduler, then trained the team to run it.

The brief,
in three beats.

Challenge · Approach · Outcome
— Challenge

What they needed.

Apang's wanted to sell online — but the standard Shopify-plus-Stripe playbook didn't fit. Perishable inventory, time-bound delivery windows, and Trinidad-specific payment preferences (WiPay, cash on delivery) all needed real treatment.

— Approach

How we tackled it.

Custom commerce stack with WiPay integration, COD support, inventory hooks that respect perishability, and a delivery window scheduler that surfaces at checkout. Built the back-office tools the team needed to actually run this every morning.

— Outcome

What happened.

Daily orders flowing through the new system. The team manages inventory and delivery windows themselves. Cash on delivery handled cleanly without phone tag.

Local-first checkout

WiPay and First Atlantic Commerce for card payments. Cash on delivery wired into the order workflow — including driver-side cash reconciliation. Apple Pay and Google Pay enabled at the device level for the smaller-but-growing share that prefers them.

02 / 04Build phase

Perishable inventory model

Inventory isn't just a count — it's a count by cut, by weight, with shelf-life awareness. Out-of-stock surfaces honestly. Low-stock triggers internal alerts the team actually sees.

  • Per-cut tracking with weight variants
  • Shelf-life alerts before product expires
  • Low-stock pings into the team WhatsApp
03 / 04Build phase

Delivery windows

Customers pick a window at checkout, not a date. The system surfaces capacity in real time so the team isn't over-committing the van. Drivers get a route sheet auto-generated each morning.

Training & handoff

Three on-site training sessions with the team — order management, inventory, refunds, edge cases. We left a written runbook and a number to call. Calls have been rare.

The system fits how we actually sell — not how a Silicon Valley platform thinks we should.
